1.4 Setiu District Local Plan Area

The Setiu District Local Plan Area involves the whole of the Setiu District covering an area of ??130,436.3 hectares. It is 10.45% of the total area of Terengganu Darul Iman. Setiu is located in the north of the State where it is bordering Besut in the north, Kuala Terengganu in the south and Hulu Terengganu on its western border. Meanwhile, it is also bordered by the South China Sea in the East.

Setiu district has seven (7) sub-districts, comprising the sub-districts of Hulu Nerus, Merang , Hulu Setiu, Caluk, Tasek, Guntung and Pantai. Three of the sub-districts border with the South China Sea in the East, which are the Merang sub-district in the south, Caluk sub-district in the central and Pantai sub-district in the north. Meanwhile, most of the Hulu Setiu and Hulu Nerus sub-districts are covered by the forest reserve which also serves as a water catchment area as well as an area with characteristics that are sensitive towards the environment.
